Key Mechanisms Of Action Oseltamivir

The antiviral medicine oseltamivir (brand name Tamiflu) acts by preventing the effects of influenza A and B viruses. Patients with flu symptoms lasting less than two days might use Tamiflu to alleviate their suffering. Patients at risk of exposure but without symptoms may also be given this medicine for preventative purposes. Finding suitable replacement medications is necessary because Tamiflu is not effective against the common cold.

Patients aged 2 weeks and up who have had symptoms for less than 48 hours and who have tested positive for influenza A or B may use Tamiflu for therapy. Patients 1 years of age and up who need prophylaxis against influenza A and B are given Tamiflu.

The oral solution and pills of Tamiflu can be taken with or without food, however the tablet is often better tolerated when taken during mealtimes. To treat influenza in adults and adolescents aged 13 and above, the recommended oral dosage of Tamiflu is 75 mg twice daily (equivalent to one 75 mg capsule or 12.5 mL of oral suspension twice daily) for a total of 5 days.

Capsules of Tamiflu may be found in 30 mg, 45 mg, and 75 mg strengths, while the recommended dosage for oral suspension is 6 mg/ml.

Keep a close eye on your health while taking Tamiflu, and if you see any changes that don't seem right, contact your doctor right away so that you may get the help you need before serious side effects occur.
