Looking for a professional plumber

AllanSutton | 27 May, 2025
Hi, people!
Could you tell me, has anyone encountered the problem of finding a decent plumber? I'm in a bit of a panic: the pipes under the sink started to drip, and when I tried to tighten something myself, it started to leak even more.
I understand that it's better to trust such things to professionals, but how can I find a normal one so that they don't rip me off for unnecessary services and the price is reasonable?

Maybe someone can tell me what to look for when choosing? Or does anyone have a trusted person I can contact directly?

I would be very grateful for advice!

I had a similar story a couple of months ago - it seemed like a small thing, but in the end I had to turn off the water in the entire apartment. Since then, I prefer to call a repairman right away. It is better to look for those who have reviews on the Internet or who work through trusted services - there are now many aggregators where you can at least see the rating and real experience of other people. And yes, do not hesitate to ask the repairman in advance how much the work will cost - this often saves you from "surprises".

I had a similar situation last year, I searched the internet for a "good plumber near me", but there were those who didn't pick up the phone, or promised to come "in three days". Finally found a plumber near me and didn't regret the choice. You can go to their website, it describes what types of services they provide and approximate prices. If someone also does not want to risk with “random” masters - I advise you to look at their website. There, it's clear what kind of people are behind the service. And, by the way, they do not only emergency calls - you can order a routine inspection. I renewed my entire bathroom in this way - calmly, without nerves.

That’s why I always try to find all the pros ahead of time. By the way, I don’t know how it works where you live, but I have a plumber “attached” to my house. So if any plumbing issues pop up I just call him.

It’s great if you live in an apartment and have that specialist who takes care of the building’s plumbing and systems. Though even with that, there are cases when you can call them and cases when you can’t. At least that’s how it works in Seattle. I’ve got a house, so most of the plumbing stuff is always up to me. But right now i really recommend local rooter service Ben's Plumbing. No idea how they did it, but they basically saved the pipe from bursting. If things had gone wrong, the repair would’ve been super expensive with full pipe replacements.
