The reaction of 2-methyl-3-phenyloxirane-2-carboxylic acid with sodium hydroxide is the most commonly used method for synthesizing Sodium;2-methyl-3-phenyloxirane-2-carboxylic acid. This reaction is carried out in aqueous solution at room temperature. The reaction produces sodium 2-methyl-3-phenyloxirane-2-carboxylate, which is then crystallized from the solution.
