Thirty-One Gifts one of top direct sales companies again

Columbus-based Thirty-One Gifts is one of the Direct Selling Association’s 2015 “Top 20” companies, the fourth year in a row that the company has made the list.

Companies on the list are based on responses from 108 direct selling companies and other sources, tabulated by economic consulting firm Nathan Associates. The top 20 are chosen on the basis of their 2014 U.S. net sales. The range is from $140 million to $1.5 billion. The top 20 were not ranked but instead presented as a group.

Retail sales volume among U.S. direct selling companies grew 5.5 percent between 2013 and 2014 to $34.47 billion, according to the Direct Selling Association. Individuals involved in direct selling increased 8.3 percent during the same period, surpassing 18 million Americans for the first time.

Between 2007 and 2014, wellness products have steadily gained in popularity and now represent the largest major product group within the direct selling channel, according to the data, rising from 21.4 percent in 2007 of total retail sales to 30.1 percent in 2014.
