There's been a lot of drama lately at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, and it's not on the stage.
This plot involves financial turmoil, a Ponzi scheme, a state investigation and a federal trial. Hundreds of thousands of dollars disappeared, the school's fundraising arm disbanded and the school nearly had to cancel its performance schedule this fall. The region's most renowned K-12 arts school was in a state of emergency.
The problems rose to such a level that the school district took the rare move of stepping in to intervene. It took over business operations at the Over-the-Rhine building, and created a plan to move forward that addresses everything from financials to academics in efforts to right the ship.
The end of the story has yet to be written but for many, it's just the latest chapter in a long history of problems here.
