BHUBANESWAR: The Congress and the BJP members on Tuesday staged a walkout in the Assembly accusing Speaker Niranjan Pujari of not allowing a debate on the multi-thousand crore chit fund scam even as the House passed a Bill in the post-lunch session in the absence of the Opposition.
“Since there is no respect towards sentiments of the Opposition, we walk out of the House in protest,” Leader of the Opposition Narasingh Mishra said, leading the Congress walkout in the afternoon session.
In the pre-lunch session, the House could meet only for a minute as a determined BJD disrupted proceedings to avoid discussion on the chit fund and land scams, in which ruling party MPs and MLAs are allegedly involved. The BJD members are resorting to the tactic for the last three days to avoid discussion on contentious issues in the House.
