NEW DELHI: Close on the heels of the arrest of a BijuJanataDal (BJD) MP in the Rs 500 croreOdisha chit fund scam, the amicus curiae in the case on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court alleging that the NaveenPatnaik government appeared to have stifled the court-ordered CBI probe to protect influential politicians.
Bringing the spotlight on the BJD government, amicus curiae and senior advocate Shyam Divan moved an application for urgent hearing before a bench of Justices T S Thakur and R Banumathi.
Though the bench agreed to list the application for hearing next week, it asked, "Should the CBI not have come before the court complaining about these things?" Divan said based on the response of the CBI, the court could consider monitoring the investigations or set up a team to supervise it.
