HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Huntsville and Madison residents are invited to spend 15 minutes or so in motion on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, as a first step toward a year of physical fitness and an easy way to donate 30 meals to hungry children.
Local independent representatives of ViSalus, which makes meal replacement milkshakes favored by both dieters and body-builders, have organized two locations in Madison County for the World's Largest Simultaneous Workout Challenge to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records by staging the world's largest simultaneous group workout day. For each person who shows up at one of the thousands of locations in the U.S. and Europe, ViSalus will donate 30 meals to a local non-profit that is fighting child hunger. The designated recipient for the Madison County challenge will be the Food Bank of North Alabama, said the Rev. Greg Ledford, who owns a construction company and also sells Visalus.
Walkers of all ages are invited to join the challenge by showing up with their walking shoes at about 11:30-11:45 a.m. in Huntsville at Vortex Gym, 3070 Leeman Ferry Road, or at the Hogan Family YMCA, 130 Park Square Lane in Madison. The challenge is free, and both the YMCA and Vortex Gym are donating the use of the facilities for the walk, which will begin at noon in both locations to coincide with the rolling start of workouts at noon around the world.
