Impasse over chit fund scam continued to prevail in the Odisha Assembly for the eighth day on Tuesday with legislators of the Opposition Congress and BJP stalling the proceedings and demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The Opposition also demanded a statement from the Chief Minister on the ruling BJD’s bank account, and the controversial remarks recently made by former High Court Judge Justice M.M. Das, who is heading the chit fund scam inquiry commission.
The Opposition parties also demanded resignation of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma for his alleged links with the chit fund companies involved in the ponzi scam. The all-party meeting convened by the Speaker to resolve the deadlock failed to find out any solution though the Chief Minister attended it following criticism from the Opposition parties.
The Assembly has been witnessing frequent adjournments for more than a week with the Chief Minister remaining silent over the chit fund controversy. The legislators of the Opposition Congress had also met Governor S.C. Jamir last week seeking his intervention and demanding imposition of President’s rule in the State.
