CBI Raids 58 Places in MAHA, Odisha

CBI Raids 58 Places in MAHA, Odisha

MORE TROUBLE FOR SAMRUDDHA JEEVAN FOODS

Nearly 300 investigators swoop down on spots connected to the company charged with cheating investors, day after arrest of CMD Mahesh Motewar in Pune

Troubles for Mahesh Motewar — the arrested chairman and managing director (CMD) of the investment scheme company Samruddha Jeevan Foods —have only gotten worse. The day after his arrest on Monday, teams from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) simultaneously raided as many as 58 places across parts of Maharashtra and Odisha, in connection with the cheating case against Motewar.

Samruddha Jeevan had come under the scanner for allegedly duping clients through lucrative investment schemes. A cheating case was registered against it at Umarga taluka several years ago, for conning people on the pretext of giving shares in a dairy project. The complainant had said that a partner of Samruddha Jeevan Foods had 'fraudulently' sold the company to Motewar sometime in 2010. Police registered the FIR in 2012 and filed a charge sheet in November this year, declaring Motewar as absconding.

Finally, Motewar was arrested by Osmanabad police from Pune on Monday. On Tuesday, the pack of CBI teams swooped down on almost 60 places connected with Samruddha Jeevan Foods — of these, nearly 40 are in Pune, including the head office.

Rajiv Ranjan, superintendent of police, CBI, who was at the raid conducted at the Samruddha Jeevan Foods head office near Fergusson College Road, said, "The raids are being conducted in Maharashtra and Odisha. Nearly 300 CBI personnel are involved. We have also made arrangements for additional staff for this purpose. Offices of Samruddha Jeevan Foods, the directors' houses and other firms related to the company are being investigated."

Asked about further details, Ranjan said, "We are still scrutinising various documents and CDs that were found at these places. Since the raids are being carried out at as many as 58 places, it will take some time to gather all information and look at it comprehensively."

According to officials, apart from Pune, CBI teams also conducted raids in Nashik, Aurangabad and Solapur in Maharashtra. "Teams sealed documents in large numbers, with the raids going on till late into Tuesday," a CBI official told Mirror on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, some investors gathered at the company's head office on the same day, demanding their money back. One such woman told Mirror, "I found out about Motewar's arrest in the papers after I reached office this morning. It is my hard-earned money and I hope I will get it back."

Motewar was produced in the court in Osmanabad on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till December 31.
