BHUBANESWAR: Leader of opposition in assembly Narasingha Mishra here on Tuesday expressed surprise as to how CBI has not yet directed its probe against chief minister Naveen Patnaik in the chit fund scam.
"Minister Damodar Rout has said Ponzi firms prospered due to government patronage. How can the CBI ignore such a claim, which is an admission of guilt? It should interrogate Rout to find out the nature of government backing and bring the CM under the probe purview," Narasingha said. He was interacting with TOI editorial staff during a 'good will' visit to the TOI office here.
Narasingha pointed out that the provisions of Odisha Self-Help Cooperatives Act, 2001, which came into force on June 2002, provided the platform for the chit companies to grow in Odisha. The BJD government repealed the Act in 2013 when its 'ulterior' design became very clear to public. "It is very rare that an Act brought by a government is repealed by the same government," he said.
