AHMEDABAD : After allegedly netting Rs 380 crore through a ponzi scheme, Abhay Gandhi sought temporary bail from Gujarat high court for providing financial assistance to his family.
Gandhi sought bail for a couple of weeks to manage finances for his family members who, according to him, are passing through critical times. Justice A J Desai, however, turned down Gandhi's bail plea because Gandhi had directly approached the high court. The judge said that Gandhi should have moved the trial court first.
Gandhi was arrested in 2012 by the city crime branch from the airport. He is accused of cheating thousands of people through a ponzi scheme to the tune of Rs 380 crore. Police claimed that Gandhi was the kingpin of all ponzi scamsters, as other conmen also invested in his schemes.
On the other hand, a metropolitan court on Monday rejected plea for remand of another alleged conman Rashesh Shah, who is also involved in a multi-crore scam.
