8 more arrested for attacking PET teacher

CHENNAI: Eight people were arrested on Saturday in connection with a mob attack on a physical education teacher of Loyola Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam alleging corporal punishment. Twenty-five people have so far been arrested after the teacher was beaten up inside the school on Thursday. Teachers met the police commissioner S George and sought police protection.

A mob barged into the school and beat up Baskar. Police said the attack was led by Arulanandam, a parent, who alleged that the teacher subjected his child studying in eighth to corporal punishment. He is still on the run.

Police apprehended Krishnamurthy, Chandrasekar and six others from Chennai and Trichy. The arrested were remanded to judicial custody. Teams have been formed to arrest Arulanandam, Sebastian and Moideen.tnn He is running a multi-level marketing (MLM) company Rich-India based in Kodambakkam.

Arulanandam was also involved in the magnetic bed scam which was busted in Tiruchi in 2003. The case is pending before a trial court. Police sources said that a retired police officer might have helped Arulanandam escape.
