Investigations into the multi-crore Saradha scam have revealed that the accused in the case allegedly invested crores of rupees in certain overseas firms. The CBI, sources said, may soon seek details about an alleged investment of Rs180 crore made by an accused in a Singapore-based trust from the authorities concerned there.
Sources said, “Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly took loan of Rs 180 crore from two public sector banks for expanding the activities of the scam-hit firms. However, the entire amount was invested in a Singapore-based trust”. The agency is preparing to seek assistance of the authorities concerned in Singapore to get details about the activities of the trust in which the entire amount was invested, they added. The agency is also taking assistance of the ED in this regard. When asked about the investment made in certain foreign firms, accused never gave any satisfactory replies during examination, sources said.
