Odisha Police writes to CBI to probe Ramesh Jena's chit fund link

Berhampur: Tightening the noose around arrested ex-Congress MLA Ramesh Jena, the Odisha Police today wrote to the CBI to probe into the former legislator’s alleged links with a chit fund company. Notably, Berhampur SP Sarthak Sarangi had recently revealed about Jena’s links with Green India, a chit fund firm accused in the mega chit fund scam in Odisha. As the CBI is probing into the scam, the Odisha Police has urged the Central investigating agency to investigate into Jena’s chit fund link. Few days ago, a luxury car, which was gifted by the chit fund company to the former legislator, was seized by police.



In a related development, more than 50 houses of Ramesh Jena including a flat in Visakhapatnam were traced today.



Notably, Jena was arrested in connection with a bomb hurling incident at the house of a corporator of Berhampur Municipality on February 29. Worth mentioning, Ramesh with several criminal antecedents was also nabbed from Bhubaneswar by Commissionerate Police on February 11, 2011. Jena, who is currently under police remand, has reportedly confessed during interrogation that money earned by him through extortion and tender fixing have been invested in in real estate, sand quarry business and gutkha business.
