Norwalk resident rewarded with car from her company

Norwalk resident rewarded with car from her company

2015 Chevy Sonic is her third car from Tupperware.

Samantha Maschari likes to be rewarded. Who doesn't? And when it's your company rewarding you for doing what you were already supposed to be, it's even sweeter.

"I just got a 2015 Chevy Sonic from Tupperware" said Maschari, a Norwalk resident and Tupperware director. "This is my third car from Tupperware. This one is special, though, because it is a Tupperware branded car."

Her new SUV is easily spotted with bold letters announcing the company's name, their logo 'Love What You Do' and Maschari's personal work number.

The young entrepreneur was excited to receive her new vehicle in February which she earned, simply for working like she should and earning the money she already needed.

"I had to earn it by selling so much within my personal team," she said. "I had to have at least $12,500 in team sales for three years in a row."

"It's a really big deal to get a car from your company," she said. "This specific car I will keep for two years and then I'll trade it in back to them for a new one."

"It's a good car," she said. "It's me. It feels nice to drive. It motivates me to talk about our product and company, knowing it works. People don't talk about things they don't use very much."

Samantha said she likes working for Tupperware because it's a business that "rewards its employees" and allows you to move up quickly "if you put the work in."

"My favorite benefit is being able to work from home and making up my own hours," she said. "I don't like having a boss over me. I do follow and do what I'm told but I like being able to call the shots. When my mom was sick, I was able to care for her. I didn't have to answer to anyone."

She couldn't deny, though, that she enjoyed her bonuses as well, including percentages of her wages throughout the year, a 1.5 carat diamond necklace, amongst other gifts.

"I get rewards for doing my job," she said. "I am currently two and half months away from getting a trip to Hawaii and about six months away from an Alaskan cruise. They say if you do this, we'll give you this."

Though it may sound like a scam, Maschari said there is definitely work involved, but the company "wants everyone to succeed."

"To get (the bonuses) you have to get up and call people, have (Tupperware) parties, launch parties and go to meetings," the director said. "But these are not instead of getting my paycheck, but a bonus on top of it."

Her favorite one so far, though, is one from her team.

"My team got together and framed the Tupperware catalog I was in (last season)," she said. "It was a touching gift. It's not all about money, it's about the value of it."

One of the reasons Maschari got into selling Tupperware was because of its value for its employees and its quality.

"Tupperware has been around for more than 67 years. It's an amazing brand name," she said. "It has things for kitchen or home that are better. The products are more expensive, but nothing is inexpensive that doesn't need to be replaced within a year or two. With Tupperware, it's guaranteed. If it breaks because of a manufacturer defect, we replace it."

Maschari said the company has more than the plastic tubs most people might associate with the name.

"People look at Tupperware and think plastic, but really it's a company about people," she said. "There are so many products. Ones for cooking, steaming, 'fridgesmarts' (containers that keep produce fresher longer). They make cooking easier and healthier. They make life easier and better."

Maschari said her job is more than a hobby.

"I've made 98% of the income for more than four years," Maschari said. " My husband Corky is a full-time college student. He lost his job and now focuses on school full time. I was making enough money to support us. I say I run my own business. I make up my hours but if I choose not to work, then I'm not going to get paid. It's a real job."
